Business via long distance calls is the basis for international (business) relations. However, even though the telephones are ringing off the hook you can not see your business partner live and in color. You have to "hear between the lines" to grasp things not said but meant. A great work climate is created by including a pleasant conversation in a business call. This is how it works:

It is important not to stumble over unfamiliar manners and phrases. Americans often answer with a simple "Hello" and work on a first name basis. This is not meant to be impolite nor are we trying to become the new best friend. It is just our custom. In order to concentrate on the actual content of the conversation and avoid misunderstandings, one should familiarize oneself with the habits and customs of the target country.

Small Talk is often underestimated. The art of light conversation forms a bond on a personal level between partners. Business is best conducted among friends. Be prepared for these questions so that you may easily join in on the chit chat. Popular subjects are sports or cultural events. Try to avoid illnesses or political views. For beginners it can help to compliment your vocabulary with useful words for these topics.

McK-B can support you by helping you prepare for your telephone conversations AND Zoom meetings, or simply attend them for you. Phone conversation training in German or English for you and your employees is also possible.

Ensure a great connection.
